54 Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta)
A stunning wildflower for the garden or to grow wild areas, Black Eyed Susans bring years of brilliant yellow color once established.
Best sown in the fall to winter over and will germinate in the Spring (similar to bulbs). If sown in the Spring, seeds must spend 3 months prior stored in 40 degrees to mimic the winter months (this is called stratifying the seed).
To Plant: Prepare your soil. Plant seeds and cover with 1/4"-1/2" of soil and keep moist.
Fall planted seeds will germinate in the Spring once the ground is warm enough. Spring planted seeds will germinate in around 2 weeks.
Thin plants to 1-2 feet apart.
Does very well in a variety of soils, but prefers an evenly moist, well drained soil.
Plants can be divided every 3-4 years in early Spring of Fall to prevent overcrowding, and the spread of disease.
