Rhubard, Victoria.

A vigorous and hardy variety. One plant produces many long, thick, tender stalks. Flavor is pleasant and tart. Use stalks only, as leaves are not edible. Can use stalks raw or cooked, in sauces, for canning or freezing.

Perennial. First year is to establish plant. Ready to cut the second year.

To harvest, grasp large outer stalks, twist, and pull from crown.

  • Plants resemble bunching onions and in summer have a lavender blossom that is very attractive. Cut off these blooms after flowering. Cut tops frequently to assure a continuous supply of new, fresh leaves. Divide clumps and reset every 2-3 years.  Height 12".
